How to Auto-Start Psiphon Proxy with Windows Logon

Psiphon proxy is a well known portable VPN tool for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux. Anyone can download Psiphon on their computers or devices by visiting https://psiphon.ca/.

What makes Psiphon a little different from the other similar software is that it does not require any installation on your Windows PC. You can download the Psiphon application and launch it right away. As soon as it is launched, it starts a connection and then your PC is protected behind their VPN connection. All this requires no special knowledge of the networking or even any kind of configuration.

Because Psiphon does not install itself on the PC, it has to be manually launched each and every time you want to use it. If you are a regular user of Psiphon then you may want to start it with the Windows automatically. Here is how it is done:

  1. Press the Win+R hotkey to open the Windows Run dialog
  2. Type C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp in the Run dialog and then press the Enter key. This will open the Startup folder.Auto-Start Psiphon
  3. Copy the downloaded Psiphon3.exe file in this Startup folder that opened in the last step.Auto-Start Psiphon
  4. Now if you restart your PC, Psiphon will be run as soon as you login to your Windows account. If your PC is already connected to the Internet, then Psiphon will connect to the VPN server automatically.Auto-Start Psiphon

When Psiphon is launched at the Windows startup, it will be displaying its window and it has to be minimized. You can change its settings to make it minimize to the notification area of the Windows desktop when it is closed. What this setting prevents is the accidental closing of Psiphon window. After making these changes with the settings of Psiphon, we can safely close its window and it will be minimized to the Windows desktop’s notification area.
