My friend got a new Asus Vivobook laptop as a gift for her birthday. But when she started to use a recording software to make a video on this laptop, she was dismayed to see an error message. This error message complained about missing Windows Media Player on the system. Because there was no Windows Media Player on the system, the recording software (Faststone Capture for Windows) could not record the computer screen.
If you are also encountering a similar problem on your Windows PC, then it can be fixed very easily. This problem occurs because of the missing Windows Media Player components. In fact these legacy components are not installed by default on a fresh Windows 11 installation. But these legacy components can be installed easily in just a few steps.
You can follow these steps to fix this error on your Windows 11 PC:
- Click on Start and then on the cogwheel icon to open Windows settings. You can also use the hotkey Win+I to open the Windows settings.
- On the Windows settings screen, click on Apps and then Options Features. On the screen that appears, you have to click on the View Features button.
- You will see a long list of available features that could be installed on. Scroll down this list to find “Windows Media Player Legacy” and select it. This feature is around 14 MB in size before installation. Click on the Next button to proceed.
- On the next window, click on the Install to finally begin installing it. It will start downloading the files from the Internet and install them on your PC. It will take 1-2 minutes before the feature is installed.
Once Windows Media Player is installed on your Windows 11 PC, you will be able to use the software that makes use of various components associated with it.
