Windows 7 uses search index for searching the contents of your hard disk. This can significantly reduce the search time when you search for a file. But if a file is not indexed, and you try to search for it, then it will not display in the search results. You can turn off the search index so that you can search all the files on the hard disk.

In Windows 7, there is a new tool called Windows DVD Maker. Using this you can create a DVD containing your pictures and video. This tool gives lots of options on the DVD menu styles. Windows DVD Maker creates a DVD compatible with PAL or NTSC format and can be played on any standard DVD player.

Windows 7 has an advanced firewall which you can use to block or allow programs to access the internet. It can prevent you from hackers attacking your computer from outside. It cal also prevent you from the malicious programs to download further malware. Sometimes, when you mess the settings of the Windows Firewall, you wish if you can just restore the settings to their default state and start over.

Windows 7 has tons of useful features. One of them is the natural language searching feature. You can search files and documents by using search terms in the natural English language. For example, if you want to search for a song by Britney Spears, then search term would be artist Britney Spears and Windows 7 would fetch all mp3 files in which artist tags equals Britney Spears.

An ISO image is a file in which a CD/DVD disc image is saved. You can use it to burn the data exactly it was on the originating CD/DVD. You can also use some virtual CD/DVD tools like Daemon Tools to load it straight in Windows. It is very common for the Linux community to distribute Linux software in form CD and DVD ISO images.

A multi-boot system is a computer that has more than one operating system installed and which allows the user to choose which operating system to boot into when the computer starts. A system with two operating systems installed is often referred to as dual-boot system. If you have installed more than one version of Windows on your computer and you see a boot menu to choose the operating system, then you have a multi-boot system.

By default if a drive has no files on it, i.e., it is empty drive then it is not shown in the Computer folder in Windows 7. But you can change the settings for making it show in Windows Explorer.

Older versions of windows, used to show Recent Documents under the Start Menu in which you could see recently opened files. Windows 7 has given it a new name : Recent Items. By default this is not shown in the Start Menu of Windows 7, but you can easily enable it.
