How to Change the Mobile Hotspot Password in Windows 10

When you want to share your internet connection with the others, you can create a WiFi hotspot also called mobile hotspot or WiFi access point. Before Windows 10, we had to depend on the third-party software to create such an adhoc WiFi hotspot. Even today, there are so many such software available, for example, OSToto Hotspot, Mars WiFi, WiFi Hotspot and more.

But starting with Windows 10, these third-party programs are no longer needed. We can create a mobile hotspot using the settings in Windows 10 itself. When we create such a mobile hotspot, Windows automatically generates a password for your use. This password could be something that you may not like. If you want to set a password of your own choice then you can quickly change the mobile hotspot password in Windows 10. Here is how it is done:

  1. Click on Start and then on the cogwheel icon to open Windows settings. Alternatively, we can press Win+I to open Windows settings.
  2. Select Network & Internet and the Mobile Hotspot.
  3. Click on the Edit button under the Network password.Change Mobile Hotspot Password in Windows 10
  4. You can enter a new password of your choice here and click on the Save button to save the new password. The password should have a minimum length of 10 characters. In order to make the password stronger, you can increase the character length, use special characters, mixed case and numerals.Change Mobile Hotspot Password in Windows 10

If you regularly share your internet connection with others through such a mobile hotspot then you should regularly change your hotspot password. This ensures that nobody is going to spread around your hotspot password once they come to know about it.

Even though mobile hotspot works in the same manner a dedicated WiFi router does, it is not recommended for long term use. If you need a WiFi hotspot for longer period regularly, then you should invest in a good WiFi router like the ones made by Netgear, D-Link or TP-Link.
