If you are using your Windows XP based computer and you have to leave the desk for a minute. You do not want anyone else to use your computer but you also do not want to log off or shutdown it. Then you can lock the computer in Windows XP.

The System Restore in Windows XP keeps the regular backups of your system but it can reduce system performance on low end computers. If you have a old or slow computer, you can boost its performance by disabling the System Restore.

The Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP allows a user to remotely connect to your computer to troubleshoot a problem that you cannot fix yourself. While this is indeed a good feature, this can open doors for a hacker to your computer. You should disable this feature until the time you really need to use it.

If you have set the folder properties to view the folders in a certain way and later find the views inconvenient, then you can choose to reset the folders. By resetting the folder settings, you can reset all the options back to default.

All the recent files you open, no matter they are movies, pictures, songs or documents, get listed in the recent documents list in the Start Menu. If you work on a computer which is used by many users on the same account, then you may want to clear the recent documents list.

After you have changed settings for a folder, you would want that all folders in the Windows should open like that. You can apply the settings of a single folder to all the folders in Windows XP.

Windows XP provides, Accessibility Options in the Control Panel for people who may have problems related to vision, hearing or mobility while using Windows. If you do not need these options, you can remove them from Windows.

In Windows XP, when you start the Windows Explorer from its Start Menu shortcut, it always starts in the My Documents folder. If you want to open it in a special folder of your choice, then you will have to change few settings in the shortcut properties.

If you want to show the Windows version on your desktop just for the sake of fun, then you would have to do few registry editing. The version string is shown on the bottom right of your desktop and shows the Windows edition as well as the service pack number.
