Sometimes Windows fails to boot properly and thats when we clench our fists thinking that we should have created a recovery drive earlier. When you install Windows 8 or buy a new Windows 8 PC, you should create a recovery drive for such emergency situations so that you can boot through the recovery drive and fix the boot problems. Windows 8 comes with a recovery drive creation utility using which you can create a recovery drive on a USB disk.

You can set Windows 8 to automatically login to a user account without bothering you with the login screen everytime you start your PC. If you use your PC in a public environment like in the office or school, then the login screen protects your PC from unauthorized access. But if you plan to use your PC at home where you are the only user, then the login screen is just a nuisance.

When you delete a file in Windows 8, you will not see any confirmation dialog like you see in Windows 7 or Vista. The file just gets deleted and sent to the Recycle Bin without it pestering you with any confirmation. But this means that if you accidentally hit the delete key, a file might be sent to the Recycle Bin and you can keep scratching your head as to where it went. Luckily, if you want then you can enable the old style confirmation dialog when you try to delete a file or folder.

Microsoft has incorporated the new tile based Metro user interface in Windows 8. But many users do not like this and want to boot straight into Windows desktop. We had earlier posted a method to do this, but it flashes the Metro start screen for a second before switching to the desktop. A new better method has now surfaced which involves a simple registry edit after which you would boot directly into Windows desktop completely bypassing the Metro start screen.
