We have recently written about OmniDrive which lets you search Google Drive right from the address bar in your Chrome browser. But what about your other online accounts? Cloud Magic a free service that helps you search many of your online accounts like Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Evernote, etc. through one simple search box. So now you do not have to login to many different accounts and search each one individually, but now you can just login to Cloud Magic and search all your accounts from the same place.
In addition to the website access through any web browser, Cloud Magic app is available for many different platforms including iPhone, iPad, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire and Windows Phone. It is also available as an extension for Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari browsers. You can find all the download links on the Cloud Magic website. I personally used the Firefox extension for this post as it is fairly easy to install. After the installation, you can access it from its toolbar button.
Before you can start using it, you need a Cloud Magic account which you can easily get by clicking on the Sign Up button in the extension itself or from the Cloud Magic website. The sign up process is very quick, just supply your email address and password and that’s it – you are signed up. After this you have to add different online accounts (like facebook, twitter etc.) to your Cloud Magic account, which you can do by clicking on the Add now button. You can also click on the gear like icon at the bottom and select the option to add an account. The next steps involve authorizing Cloud Magic app for the online account that you are trying to add.
After you have added one or more accouts to the Cloud Magic app, you can start searching through those of your accounts right from the Cloud Magic app. Just type a keyword in the search box and Cloud Magic would quickly show the search results. You can click on the search results to go to the respective page and see the actual post, comment, message etc. I searched for love and found many messages in my facebook and twitter account.
Cloud Magic does not search your online accounts directly everytime. It indexes all your added online accounts on its servers and then uses this database to search through your online accounts. This is why the searches using Cloud Magic are very very fast. The indexing process may take from a few minutes to several hours depending on the data contained in your added online accounts. After the indexing is done, you get better and more accurate results. So if you do not get the search results as you expected, just wait for 24 hours and then check again – this time search results should be improved. You can see the indexing status for an added online account on the Manage Your Accounts page on the Cloud Magic website.
Actually, you do not really need any app or browser extension for Cloud Magic searches. You can just visit the Cloud Magic website and search through your added online accounts. The Cloud Magic web search also has a preview pane in which you can view the preview of an item in the search results as shown in the picture below:
